China is an important commodity importer of Vietnam and it is also an influential market. Tea export volume to China over the last few years has sharply increased.
According to statistics of General Department of Vietnam Customs over the first 9 months of 2017, Vietnam exported 102,784 tons of tea and earned USD 164,11 million, up 12% in quantity, up 11.4% in value compared to the same period last year). Especially, Vietnam exported 12,242 tons of tea (USD 20.9 million) in September 2017 (down 12% in quantity and up 10% in value compared to the last month).
The average tea export price over the first 9 months of 2017 is USD 1596.7 /ton (down 0,6% compared to the same period last year).
China is a potential market. China ranks 4th in importing tea from Vietnam, behind Russia. Although the export volume increased by 41% compared to the same period last year, the value decreased by 37% due to low price (8,370 tons-USD10.38 million). Export price is USD 1,240/ton, which reduces by 55% compared to the same period last year.
